Midjourney sells four plans. Basic is $10 a month with about 3.3 hours of fast GPU time, Standard is $30 with 15 hours and unlimited relaxed image generation, Pro is $60 with 30 hours and Stealth Mode, and Mega is $120 with 60 hours. Paying yearly saves 20 percent, bringing Basic to $8 a month Midjourney plans ↗. There is no free trial on the website or Discord; Krea, a competitor, reports a limited trial only in the niji journey mobile app Krea on Midjourney ↗.

ChatGPT Images is part of ChatGPT and is available on every tier, including Free ChatGPT Images help ↗. The free plan includes limited image creation, Go adds more, and Plus adds more complex and accurate image creation ChatGPT pricing ↗. Go costs $8 a month in the US with 10 times the free tier's image creation ChatGPT Go launch ↗, and Plus costs $20 a month ChatGPT Plus help ↗. For a small business that already pays for ChatGPT, images cost nothing extra. Midjourney is a separate bill, so it needs to earn its place by producing images you could not get otherwise.

Image quality and style

Midjourney's reputation rests on looks. In practice, that means ChatGPT is the safer choice for a sale banner with a price on it or a menu board, and Midjourney is the better choice for a moody hero image for your website.

Commercial use, privacy and ownership

Both let you use images commercially, with differences. Workflow and ease of use

ChatGPT works like a conversation. You describe an image, then ask for changes in plain words, or use the selection tool to highlight a spot and describe the edit.
