50 jobs ranked by AI exposure

The most exposed jobs are Telemarketers (67), Payroll clerks (66), Customer service representatives (58). The least exposed are Actuaries (17), Cashiers (19), Registered nurses (20). Across all 50 jobs, AI does 77 of 698 core tasks today and helps with 374 more, while 247 are still done by people.

Key findings

  • 12 high, 35 medium and 3 low exposure jobs. No job on the list has every task automated. AI changes the mix of work long before it removes a role.
  • More exposed jobs are growing a little slower. The more exposed half of the list has a median BLS outlook of -1% over the next 10 years, against +3% for the less exposed half. The link is moderate, so exposure is a sign of change, not a forecast of job loss.
  • Lower paid office work is the most exposed. The more exposed half earns a median $55,570, against $75,940 for the less exposed half.
  • Hands, licenses and trust are the safest parts of any job. Most of the tasks still marked human need a physical presence, a license holder's signature or a relationship built on trust.

How we scored each job

  1. We took each job's core tasks from the US Labor Department's O*NET database (12 to 16 per job).
  2. For each task we looked for published evidence of shipping AI tools doing it: vendor documentation, credible reporting and studies.
  3. Each task got one verdict: AI does this today (most of the work, light human review), AI helps, you check (drafts or speeds it up), or still human (judgment, licensing, physical work or trust).
  4. Pay, job counts and 10 year outlook come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Each job page lists every source.

Limits: this measures what tools can do today, not what employers will choose to do. It is a snapshot, and we update verdicts as tools change.
