The Best AI App Builder for Non Coders

You can now describe an app in plain English and get a working, hosted web app back. The hard part is not the first demo. It is what the app costs to keep changing, where your data lives, and whether a stranger can read it. Here is what we would use.

THE SHORT ANSWERUsable

Yes, a non coder can now build a working web app from a prompt, with sign in, a database and hosting included. For most founders we recommend Lovable: Pro starts at $25 a month for 100 credits, it publishes the cost of typical requests, its built in backend needs no separate account, and it scans for common security holes before you publish. Bolt.new has the roomiest free plan, and Replit suits apps that need more backend work.

These builders turn a prompt into a working app today, but costs rise with every change, and generated apps still need a careful security check before they hold real customer data.

Lovable: our pick

Free; Pro from $25/month for 100 credits, or $250/year

Best for founders who want a working app, a predictable bill per change and a security check before launch.

Lovable builds web apps from a chat, and its default backend, Lovable Cloud, covers the database, sign in, file storage and server functions without a separate account Lovable Cloud ↗. Lovable hosts the published app with HTTPS included, on a lovable.app address by default Lovable publishing ↗. For a founder that means one tool from first prompt to live link.

Its biggest advantage for non coders is cost you can estimate. Lovable publishes example credit costs: 0.50 credits to make a button gray, 1.20 to add authentication and 2.00 to build a landing page with images Lovable credits ↗. Pro is $25 a month for 100 credits, or $250 a year, with 5 extra build credits a day and no monthly cap on those Lovable plans ↗ Lovable credits ↗. Extra credits on Pro cost $15 per 50, which is $0.30 a credit Lovable credits ↗. Unused monthly credits roll over while you stay subscribed, and monthly plan credits expire two months after they are issued Lovable credits ↗.

You are not locked in. Git sync with GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket is on every plan, and Pro adds editing and downloading the code Lovable plans ↗. Before you publish, a quick scan checks database access rules, dependencies and exposed connectors, and a deeper scan is available on demand Lovable security ↗. Lovable is also frank that the scans cannot guarantee security and that you are responsible for your app Lovable security ↗.

Why we like Lovable

  • Published credit cost for common requests
  • Database, sign in and hosting included
  • Git sync on every plan; code download on Pro
  • Security scan before publishing
  • Free plan with 5 build credits a day

Where Lovable falls short

  • On Free and Pro, anyone with the link can open your published app
  • Cloud usage draws on the same credits once the monthly grant runs out
  • Chat pricing is temporary through October 31, 2026

Replit: best for backend heavy apps

Core $20/month or $18/month billed yearly; Pro $100/month

Best for founders whose app needs real server work, scheduled jobs or a production database with a rollback.

Replit Agent builds an app from your description and runs it in Replit's own cloud. Every app gets a free development database, and production databases are billed only for the hours they are active and the storage they use Replit hosting billing ↗. Publishing is billed by outbound data, compute units and requests, and Core includes 100 GiB of outbound data a month Replit hosting billing ↗.

Core costs $20 a month, or $18 a month billed yearly, and includes $20 of credits for the stronger models plus up to 30 hours of chat in Free Mode Replit pricing ↗. Pro costs $100 a month, or $90 billed yearly, and adds 10 parallel agents, up to 15 collaborators and database rollback for up to 28 days Replit pricing ↗. Agent work is priced by effort, with one checkpoint per request, and Replit asks you to confirm before a paid action starts Replit AI billing ↗. It does not publish a dollar cost per task, but it does let you set usage alerts and hard budget caps Replit AI billing ↗.

Export is simple: you can download a project as a zip or connect a GitHub repository with two way sync Replit export ↗. The free Starter plan is a trial, not a home for a business app: it allows one published app that lasts 30 days and no Plan Mode Replit AI billing ↗.

Why we like Replit

  • Production database, hosting and agent in one place
  • Hard budget caps and usage alerts
  • 28 day database rollback on Pro
  • Download as zip or two way GitHub sync

Where Replit falls short

  • No published cost per task
  • Hosting and database usage billed on top of the plan
  • Free plan only keeps one app live for 30 days

Bolt.new: best free option

Free; Pro from $25/month for 10M tokens

Best for testing an idea for free before you commit to a paid plan.

Bolt has the most generous free plan of the three: 1 million tokens a month with a 300,000 daily limit, hosting for up to 333,000 web requests and unlimited databases Bolt pricing ↗. Free sites carry Bolt branding Bolt pricing ↗. That is enough to build and share a first version of a simple tool.

Pro is $25 a month and starts at 10 million tokens with no daily limit, custom domains and hosting for up to 1 million web requests Bolt pricing ↗. Unused paid tokens roll over for one extra month Bolt pricing ↗.

The weak spot is predictability. Bolt does not publish a cost per message, and most token use comes from reading and syncing your project files, so each message costs more as the app grows Bolt tokens ↗. Direct edits in the code view use no tokens Bolt tokens ↗. You can connect GitHub, and Bolt commits as you work and pulls in outside changes every 30 seconds, though only the project owner can set this up Bolt GitHub ↗.

Why we like Bolt.new

  • 1 million free tokens a month
  • Hosting and unlimited databases on the free plan
  • Automatic GitHub sync
  • Paid tokens roll over one month

Where Bolt.new falls short

  • Token cost per message is not published and grows with project size
  • Yearly prices are not listed
  • Free sites show Bolt branding

Who this is for

This guide is for founders, small business owners and operators who do not write code and want a working web app: a client portal, a booking tool, an internal dashboard or a first version of a product to show investors. You want the AI to do the coding, and you want the app hosted somewhere with a database behind it.

That is a different job from the one in our AI coding assistant guide. Developers already have a code editor, a hosting provider and a database, and they want help writing code faster. A non coder needs all of the pieces bundled, plus a bill that does not surprise them. So we judged these tools on what is included, how you pay for each change, whether you can take the code with you, and how easy it is to publish something insecure by accident.

If you can code, skip this guide and read the coding assistant one instead. Cursor and GitHub Copilot are cheaper ways to get AI help when you already know how to run and host an app Cursor pricing ↗ Copilot pricing ↗.

Why you should trust us

We read each vendor's pricing page, billing documentation and help center, checked every price on October 12, 2026, and read independent reporting on security incidents involving AI built apps Superblocks on CVE-2025-48757 ↗ TechTarget on Replit ↗. Every fact in this guide links to the page it came from.

No vendor paid for placement, and our picks were chosen on merit.

How we picked

We started with the browser based builders that take a plain English prompt and return a hosted app. We left out tools that only make websites, and coding tools that assume you already run your own hosting.

For non coders, four things mattered more than raw model quality. First, hosting and a database must be included, or the app cannot go live without outside help. Second, you need to be able to export the code, so a developer can take over later. Third, the pricing has to be understandable, because every message costs credits or tokens. Fourth, the tool should help you avoid publishing customer data to the open internet.

  • Hosting, database and sign in included
  • Code export or Git sync, so you are not locked in
  • Published pricing, ideally with a cost per typical request
  • Spending caps or alerts
  • Security checks before publishing
  • A free plan to try the idea first

What an app really costs to build

The plan price is only the floor. Every change you ask for costs credits or tokens, and fixing a bug often takes several tries. Here is the math using published prices.

Lovable is the easiest to estimate. Say your first version takes 60 build requests that average 1.5 credits each, a mid point between Lovable's own examples of 1.20 credits for adding authentication and 2.00 for a landing page with images Lovable credits ↗. That is 90 credits, which fits inside Pro's 100 monthly credits, and Pro also adds 5 free build credits a day Lovable plans ↗ Lovable credits ↗. If you need 50 more, a top up costs $15 Lovable credits ↗. A year of Pro billed annually is $250 Lovable plans ↗. These request counts are our assumption for a simple app, not a Lovable figure.

Replit Core billed yearly is $216 a year and includes $20 of model credits a month Replit pricing ↗. Because Replit prices agent work by effort and does not publish a per task cost, set a hard budget cap in billing settings before you start Replit AI billing ↗. Hosting and the production database are billed by usage on top Replit hosting billing ↗.

Bolt Pro at $25 a month is $300 a year on monthly billing, and the page says yearly billing saves up to 28 percent without listing the yearly price Bolt pricing ↗. Because each message reads your whole project, a bigger app burns tokens faster Bolt tokens ↗.

For comparison, a developer using Cursor Pro or GitHub Copilot Pro pays $20 or $10 a month, but gets no hosting or database with it Cursor pricing ↗ Copilot pricing ↗.

The security problem you have to take seriously

AI app builders make it easy to ship an app that works and still leaks data. In 2025 a researcher reported that many Lovable built projects lacked proper row level security, the database rule that limits each user to their own records. A follow up scan found 303 exposed endpoints across 170 projects, and the issue was filed as CVE-2025-48757 Superblocks on CVE-2025-48757 ↗. Exposed data included names, emails, phone numbers, payment status and API keys Superblocks on CVE-2025-48757 ↗. Lovable responded with a security scan, which has since grown to check access rules, secrets and dependencies before publishing Superblocks on CVE-2025-48757 ↗ Lovable security ↗.

Agents can also damage data. In July 2025 an investor using Replit's agent reported that it deleted his production database during a code freeze, and Replit's CEO pledged automatic separation of development and production databases TechTarget on Replit ↗. Replit Pro now lists database rollback for up to 28 days Replit pricing ↗.

None of this means you should avoid these tools. It means you should treat security as your job, which is exactly what Lovable's own documentation says Lovable security ↗.

  • Run the deeper security scan before you publish anything with customer data
  • Never paste API keys into the chat; use the tool's secrets feature
  • Remember that Lovable Free and Pro apps are open to anyone with the link Lovable publishing ↗
  • Keep development and production data separate, and back up the database
  • Pay a developer for a one time review before you take payments or store health data

Before you sign up

Start on a monthly plan and a free tier. Build the smallest useful version of your app first, then check how many credits or tokens it actually used before you pay for a year.

Turn on Git sync on day one, even if you never look at the code. It is your exit if prices change or you hire a developer, and all three picks support it Lovable plans ↗ Replit export ↗ Bolt GitHub ↗. Set a spending cap where the tool offers one Replit AI billing ↗.

  • Connect GitHub before you build much
  • Set a budget cap or usage alert
  • Write down what the app must never show to a stranger, then test it logged out
  • Check how hosting is billed once real users arrive
  • Read the credit expiry rules so prepaid credits do not lapse

The competition

CursorFree; Pro $20/month

Cursor is an AI code editor with a free Hobby plan and individual plans from $20 a month Cursor pricing ↗. It is a strong choice if you can read code and already know how to host an app, but its pricing page does not mention hosting or a database, so a non coder would still need to set those up Cursor pricing ↗.

GitHub CopilotFree; Pro $10/month

GitHub Copilot is the cheapest AI help for people who code: Free includes 2,000 completions and 50 chat requests a month, and Pro is $10 a month with $10 of included credits plus an optional $5 more Copilot pricing ↗. Like Cursor, it helps you write code; it does not host or run your app.

Questions people ask

Can I build an app with AI without knowing how to code?

Yes. Lovable, Replit and Bolt all take a plain English description and return a working web app with hosting included Lovable Cloud ↗ Lovable publishing ↗ Replit hosting billing ↗ Bolt pricing ↗. You will still need to test it carefully, write clear requests and check security before real customers use it Lovable security ↗.

Which AI app builder is cheapest?

Bolt has the largest free plan, with 1 million tokens a month Bolt pricing ↗. For paid plans, Replit Core is $18 a month billed yearly Replit pricing ↗, Lovable Pro is $250 a year Lovable plans ↗, and Bolt Pro is $25 a month Bolt pricing ↗. Real costs depend on how many changes you make, and Lovable is the only one that publishes example costs per request Lovable credits ↗.

Do I own the code an AI app builder writes?

You can take it with you. Lovable offers Git sync on every plan and code download on Pro Lovable plans ↗, Replit lets you download a zip or sync with GitHub Replit export ↗, and Bolt syncs to GitHub automatically Bolt GitHub ↗. Read each vendor's terms for ownership details.

Are apps built with Lovable or Bolt secure?

Not automatically. A 2025 vulnerability, CVE-2025-48757, exposed data in 170 Lovable projects that lacked proper database access rules Superblocks on CVE-2025-48757 ↗. Lovable now scans before publishing but says the scans cannot guarantee security and that you are responsible Lovable security ↗. Test your app while logged out and get a professional review before storing sensitive data.

What is the difference between an AI app builder and an AI coding assistant?

An app builder writes, runs and hosts the whole app for you, with a database included Lovable Cloud ↗ Replit hosting billing ↗. A coding assistant such as Cursor or GitHub Copilot helps a developer write code in their own editor and does not host anything Cursor pricing ↗ Copilot pricing ↗.

Why did my credits run out so fast?

Every request costs credits or tokens, and repeated bug fixes add up. On Bolt, bigger projects cost more per message because the AI reads your project files each time Bolt tokens ↗. On Lovable, build requests range from 0.50 to 2.00 credits in its own examples Lovable credits ↗. Use planning modes, make small requests and edit text directly where the tool allows it.
