The Best AI Product Photo Generator

A phone photo on a kitchen table will not pass Amazon's main image check, and a plain white cutout will not sell the lifestyle on Shopify. AI tools now handle both jobs, but each marketplace has its own rules about what an AI edited image may show. Here is what we would use.

THE SHORT ANSWERIn use

Yes, AI can now turn a phone snapshot into a clean white background listing photo and a styled lifestyle scene in minutes. For most Shopify, Amazon and Etsy sellers we recommend Photoroom: Pro costs $7.50 a month billed yearly for 1,000 exports, and there is a free tier of 100 exports a month for testing. Keep your main image a real photo of the real product on pure white, and use AI scenes for the extra images.

Background removal and white background cleanup are reliable today and sold at low prices. AI generated scenes and models work well for secondary images, but marketplaces still require the main image to show the real product accurately.

Photoroom: our pick

Free for 100 exports/month (no commercial use); Pro $7.50/month billed yearly

Best for most sellers who need consistent white background and styled product shots across a whole catalog.

Photoroom is built for exactly this job. Every paid plan includes background removal, retouching, AI shadows, AI backgrounds and AI fashion models Photoroom pricing ↗. Pro costs $7.50 a month billed yearly and includes 1,000 exports and 8,000 AI credits a month Photoroom pricing ↗. Max, at $20.99 a month billed yearly, raises that to 3,000 exports and 25,000 credits and adds a video generator and the Shopify integration Photoroom pricing ↗. Ultra, at $82.50 a month, is the only self serve plan with 4K output Photoroom pricing ↗.

The Shopify app is the reason we put it first for store owners. Photoroom's AI Listing Assistant imports your catalog, bulk edits the photos and publishes them back to your store, and it also scores listing quality and writes alt text Photoroom on Shopify ↗. The app listing itself is free, but the pricing page lists the Shopify integration only on Max and above, so budget for Max if you want the sync Photoroom on Shopify ↗ Photoroom pricing ↗. The app has a 3.9 out of 5 rating from 35 reviews on the Shopify App Store Photoroom on Shopify ↗.

Free accounts get 100 exports a month, or 25 a week Photoroom export limits ↗. Read the fine print before you list with them: Photoroom's own plans article says the Free plan does not include commercial use Photoroom plans ↗. Treat Free as a trial and move to Pro before your edited photos go on a store. Photoroom refunds purchases up to one week after you buy, and downgrades take effect at renewal Photoroom pricing ↗.

Why we like Photoroom

  • Background removal, AI shadows and AI scenes on every paid plan
  • Pro from $7.50 a month billed yearly for 1,000 exports
  • Shopify app bulk edits and syncs photos back to your store
  • Phone, tablet and web apps

Where Photoroom falls short

  • Free plan excludes commercial use
  • Shopify integration needs the $20.99 Max plan
  • Monthly billing prices not shown on the pricing page
  • 4K output only on the $82.50 Ultra plan

Claid: best for apparel and large catalogs

Essentials from $15/month for 500 credits, per Zapier; Pro price not published

Best for clothing brands and marketplaces that need on model shots and high volume editing.

Claid's standout feature is AI fashion: it turns flat lay and ghost mannequin shots of tops, bottoms, shoes and accessories into on model images, with a library of diverse AI models Claid for business ↗. It also removes backgrounds, upscales to 4K and fixes lighting and noise Claid for business ↗. Zapier names it the best AI photo editor for product photos and says it handles even poor uploads well Zapier review ↗.

Pricing works in credits, and the credit costs are clear. A background removal costs 1 credit, an AI photoshoot or AI fashion image costs 4, an upscale 2 to 8, and a 5 second AI video 60 Claid pricing ↗. Pro includes 2,000 credits a month, enough for 500 AI photoshoots or 2,000 cutouts, and Pro and Business add batch processing, a priority queue and brand kits Claid pricing ↗. Developers can buy API plans from $59 for 1,000 credits Claid for business ↗.

The catch is that Claid's pricing page does not show dollar prices for Essentials or Pro, and it says prices may change Claid pricing ↗. Zapier lists Essentials from $15 a month for 500 credits and calls Claid relatively expensive Zapier review ↗. The free tier is 50 credits once, with history kept for 24 hours Claid pricing ↗, and Claid's help center adds 50 API credits and five test images Claid free trial ↗. Claid's case studies, such as Rappi cutting image production time by 42 percent, are vendor reported numbers Claid for business ↗.

Why we like Claid

  • AI fashion models from flat lays and ghost mannequins
  • Clear credit cost for each operation
  • Batch processing and brand kits on Pro
  • API for automated catalog pipelines

Where Claid falls short

  • Plan prices not shown on its own pricing page
  • Free tier is a one time 50 credits
  • Zapier calls it relatively expensive

Pixlr: budget pick

Free background remover; Plus $1.99/month billed yearly, $2.49 monthly

Best for small sellers who need white background cutouts in bulk for almost nothing.

Pixlr's background remover is the cheapest way we found to get a folder of products onto a white background. Pixlr says the tool is completely free for all users, removes backgrounds from over 100 images at once, and lets you switch the transparent result to white before saving each file as a PNG or the whole set as a ZIP Pixlr background remover ↗. Its batch editor can also resize a whole batch by width, height or ratio, and it is free, though you need to create a trial account Pixlr batch editor ↗.

If you want more AI, the paid plans are cheap. Plus is $1.99 a month billed yearly or $2.49 monthly with 80 AI credits a month, no ads and unlimited saves Pixlr pricing ↗. Premium is $7.99 a month billed yearly or $9.99 monthly with 1,000 credits and access to all of Pixlr's image, video and audio models Pixlr pricing ↗. Zapier's reviewer says Pixlr has the best AI offerings in its roundup, but calls it a bit rougher than some of the other apps Zapier review ↗.

Know the limits. Uploads to the background remover top out at 4096 by 4096 pixels Pixlr background remover ↗, and Pixlr is a general editor, not a product photo workflow, so there is no catalog sync with Shopify or marketplace presets.

Why we like Pixlr

  • Free background removal for 100 plus images at once
  • One click switch from transparent to white background
  • Free batch resize
  • Paid plans from $1.99 a month billed yearly

Where Pixlr falls short

  • No Shopify or marketplace connection
  • Upload limit of 4096 by 4096 pixels
  • Rougher results than specialist tools, per Zapier

Adobe Firefly: best for lifestyle scenes

Free daily generations; Standard $9.99/month for 2,000 credits

Best for generating styled lifestyle backgrounds for secondary images and ads.

Adobe Firefly's background generator places your product in a new setting, from simple flat lays to elaborate scenes, and Adobe says you can use it free with an Adobe account through daily generations Firefly background generator ↗. Related tools remove objects, expand an image and upscale it Adobe Firefly ↗.

Firefly's main selling point for brands is licensing. Adobe says its Firefly models are commercially safe because they are trained on licensed Adobe Stock and public domain content, that it does not train on your content, and that outputs carry Content Credentials showing AI was used Adobe Firefly ↗. That claim covers Adobe's own Firefly image model; the partner models from Google, OpenAI and others are offered for variations, and the page does not describe their commercial use status Firefly background generator ↗.

Paid plans start at $9.99 a month for Standard with 2,000 generative credits, $19.99 for Pro with 4,000 credits, and $49.99 for Pro Plus with 10,000 credits Adobe Firefly ↗. The free plan's daily generation count is not published Adobe Firefly ↗. Firefly is not a cutout tool for a whole catalog, so pair it with Photoroom or Pixlr for the white background main images.

Why we like Adobe Firefly

  • Free daily generations with an Adobe account
  • Adobe says Firefly models are commercially safe
  • Content Credentials label AI output
  • Paid plans from $9.99 a month

Where Adobe Firefly falls short

  • Free daily limit not published
  • Commercial safety claim does not cover partner models
  • No batch catalog workflow for marketplaces

Who this is for

This guide is for people who sell physical products online, on Shopify, Amazon, Etsy, eBay or Google Shopping, and need two kinds of images: a clean main image that passes the marketplace's checks, and styled images that help a shopper picture the product in use. If you have no studio, a phone, a window and an AI tool can now cover most of that.

Our general guides answer different questions. Our guide to AI tools for ecommerce covers the whole store, from email to support. Our free photo editor guide is for anyone fixing any photo. This one judges tools only on product images, and on whether the output will be accepted by the marketplace you sell on. Amazon, Etsy and Google each have written image rules, and an image that breaks them can get a listing suppressed or disapproved Amazon white background thread ↗ Etsy image policy ↗ Google image rules ↗.

Why you should trust us

We read each vendor's pricing page, help center and product pages and checked every price on October 12, 2026. We read the image rules published by Etsy, Shopify and Google, and Amazon's rules as quoted on its own Seller Forums, including a reply from Amazon staff Amazon image standards ↗ Amazon white background thread ↗ Etsy image policy ↗ Etsy image sizes ↗ Shopify image sizes ↗ Google image rules ↗. We also read Zapier's comparison of AI photo editors Zapier review ↗. Every fact links to its source.

No vendor paid for placement, and our picks were chosen on merit.

How we picked

We started with the tools sellers use most for product images: specialist product photo apps, general editors with AI cutouts, and AI image generators. We dropped tools that only generate images from text, because a seller needs to keep the real product in the frame.

Three criteria mattered more here than in a general photo editor guide. The first is a pure white background in one step, because Amazon checks for RGB 255, 255, 255, not just white to the eye Amazon white background thread ↗. The second is volume: a store with 200 products needs batch editing, not one photo at a time. The third is honest licensing, since a free plan that excludes commercial use, as Photoroom's does, is only a trial for a store Photoroom plans ↗.

  • One step pure white background that meets Amazon's main image rule
  • Batch editing for a full catalog
  • AI scenes or models for secondary and ad images
  • Clear commercial use terms on the plan you pay for
  • A connection to Shopify or an API where it matters
  • Published prices and a free tier or trial
  • Independent reviews where they exist

Marketplace image rules to check before you upload

Amazon: the main image needs a pure white background, RGB 255, 255, 255, and the product should fill 85 to 100 percent of the frame, according to a 2026 Seller Forums post summarizing Amazon's Product Image Requirements guide Amazon image standards ↗. Images should be at least 1,000 pixels on the longest side for zoom, with 1,600 or more suggested Amazon image standards ↗. An Amazon staff member confirmed on the forums that listings can be suppressed for a non pure white background and that the rule exists to keep search results consistent Amazon white background thread ↗. A background that only looks white is the most common failure, which is why a cutout tool that fills with true white is worth paying for.

Etsy: Etsy's policy says to use original photos of the actual product buyers will receive, not renderings or stock photos Etsy image policy ↗. For custom items, a computer generated mockup may appear in additional images, but the first image must be a real photo Etsy image policy ↗. Etsy recommends photos at least 2,000 pixels wide and tall, and transparent PNGs are not supported, so their clear areas show up black Etsy image sizes ↗.

Google Merchant Center: the main image must give a clean, unobstructed view of the product, with the product filling about 75 to 90 percent of the frame, and no promotional text, borders, watermarks or added logos Google image rules ↗. Images made with generative AI must keep metadata that marks them as AI generated, such as the IPTC DigitalSourceType tag, so do not strip it when you export Google image rules ↗.

Shopify: Shopify accepts images up to 5000 by 5000 pixels or 25 megapixels and under 20 MB, and says a 2048 by 2048 pixel square usually displays best Shopify image sizes ↗.

  • Main image: a real photo of the real product, on pure white for Amazon
  • Use AI scenes and models for additional images, not the first one
  • Export at least 2,000 pixels on the long side to cover Etsy, Amazon zoom and Shopify
  • No text, badges or borders on the main image for Google Shopping
  • Keep AI metadata intact on generated images

What an AI product photo tool can and can't do today

It can reliably cut a product out of a busy background, fill the space with white, add a soft shadow and resize a whole batch. Pixlr does that for free for 100 plus images at a time Pixlr background remover ↗, and Photoroom does it with shadows and presets on every paid plan Photoroom pricing ↗.

It can create believable lifestyle scenes and on model shots. Claid turns flat lays into on model images Claid for business ↗, and Firefly and Photoroom generate new backgrounds around your product Firefly background generator ↗ Photoroom pricing ↗. These are fine for secondary images and ads.

It cannot fix a product that is out of focus or badly lit, and generated scenes can change small details such as labels, stitching or color. Check every AI image against the real item, because Etsy requires photos to show the actual product's condition, quality and quantity Etsy image policy ↗.

Before you sign up

Do the cost math for your catalog. A store adding 50 new products a month, with five images each, needs about 250 exports a month, inside Photoroom Pro's 1,000 export allowance at $7.50 a month billed yearly Photoroom pricing ↗. On Claid, 250 background removals cost 250 credits, but 250 AI photoshoots cost 1,000 credits Claid pricing ↗. If you only need white background cutouts, Pixlr's free remover may be enough Pixlr background remover ↗.

Check the license on the exact plan. Photoroom's Free plan excludes commercial use Photoroom plans ↗. Adobe's commercial safety claim applies to its own Firefly model, not to the partner models in the same app Firefly background generator ↗.

Test on your hardest product first: something white, clear, shiny or furry. Those are where cutouts fail and where a non pure white edge gets a listing flagged Amazon white background thread ↗.

  • Count exports or credits for one month of new listings
  • Confirm commercial use on the plan you will pay for
  • Test a white, clear or reflective product before committing
  • Check the background with an eyedropper for RGB 255, 255, 255
  • Keep your original photos in case a marketplace asks

What to look forward to

Product photo tools are moving into video. Photoroom's Max plan includes up to 50 video generations a month Photoroom pricing ↗, and Claid sells 5 second product videos by credit Claid pricing ↗.

Marketplaces are also starting to label AI images. Google already requires generated images to carry AI metadata Google image rules ↗. Expect more platforms to ask sellers to disclose AI scenes, which is one more reason to keep the main image a real photograph.

The competition

Adobe PhotoshopPhotography plan $19.99/month on an annual plan

Photoshop gives the most control for a hero image that needs real retouching, and Zapier calls it the best full featured image editor around, though hard to learn and with generative AI costing extra Zapier review ↗. The Photography plan with Lightroom is $19.99 a month on an annual plan with 1,000 generative credits and a 7 day trial Photoshop plans ↗. It is slow for a catalog of hundreds of products.

Adobe ExpressPremium $9.99/month

Adobe Express is free with no card and gives free daily generations for images and object removal, and Premium is $9.99 a month with 250 generative credits and a 30 day trial Adobe Express pricing ↗. It is better for social posts and ads than for catalog cutouts, and bulk resizing needs Premium Adobe Express pricing ↗.

Questions people ask

Can I use AI generated product photos on Amazon?

For the main image, use a real photo of the actual product on a pure white background, RGB 255, 255, 255, with the product filling 85 to 100 percent of the frame Amazon image standards ↗. Amazon can suppress a listing whose main image background is not pure white Amazon white background thread ↗. For custom items, computer generated mockups may be used in additional images, but the first image must be a real photo Etsy image policy ↗. What is the best free AI product photo tool?

Pixlr's background remover is free for all users and handles more than 100 images at once with a white background option Pixlr background remover ↗.
