The Best AI Video Generator

AI can now turn a sentence or a photo into a short video clip for social media or ads. Here is the tool we would start with, the best free option, and what to use for talking presenter videos.

THE SHORT ANSWERUsable

Mostly yes. AI video tools now make convincing short clips of a few seconds, which is enough for social posts, ads and product teasers, but longer stories still take work. For most people we recommend Google Flow, which comes with Google AI plans from $4.99 a month and runs Google's Gemini Omni model, the top ranked video model on Arena. For free, try Kling's daily credits.

Short clips are good enough for marketing today, but clips last seconds, not minutes, and getting consistent results takes trial and error.

Google Flow

Best for most people who want top quality short video clips at a low monthly price.

Google's video models lead the most watched public ranking. On Arena's text to video leaderboard, updated September 21, 2026, Google's Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash and Gemini Omni Flash hold the top two places Arena video leaderboard ↗. Arena ranks models by blind public votes, so it is a useful quality check, though not a test of your specific project.

You get these models through Google Flow, Google's video studio, which comes with paid Google AI plans. Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash is available to all Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers through Flow, and you can extend scenes in 10 second steps up to 40 seconds ETV Bharat, Gemini Omni ↗. It is a conversational model, so you can ask for changes in plain language rather than starting over DataNorth, Gemini Omni ↗. Output options run from 360p to 4K, with 1080p and 4K made by upscaling DataNorth, Gemini Omni ↗.

Pricing is the best part. Google AI Plus is $4.99 a month with 200 Flow credits, Google AI Pro is $19.99 with 1,000 credits, and Ultra comes with 10,000 or 25,000 credits Google AI plans ↗. Plus also adds Google storage and more Gemini use Google AI plans ↗. We could not find a published count of how many clips a credit buys, so start on Plus and watch your balance. Hands on testing is in progress; we will update this guide with results.

Why we like it

  • Top two places on Arena's video leaderboard
  • Starts at $4.99 a month
  • Edit clips by describing changes
  • Scenes can be extended to 40 seconds

Flaws but not dealbreakers

  • Not available to free Google users
  • Credit cost per clip not clearly published
  • 4K output is upscaled
Best free optionFree with 66 daily credits; Standard starts at $10/month

Kling AI

Best for trying AI video at no cost, if you can live with a watermark.

Kling's free plan gives you 66 credits a day that expire after 24 hours, according to a June 2026 pricing guide eesel, Kling pricing ↗. That is a rare free allowance that refreshes every day instead of a one time grant. Runway, for comparison, gives free users 125 credits once Runway pricing ↗.

Free videos carry a Kling watermark that cannot be removed eesel, Kling pricing ↗. That is fine for testing ideas but not for a finished ad. Watermark removal starts with the Standard plan at $10 a month for 660 credits, and Pro is $37 for 3,000 credits eesel, Kling pricing ↗. The same guide notes that first subscription discounts of up to 30 percent apply only to the first billing period eesel, Kling pricing ↗.

Kling 3.0 is also available inside Runway's paid plans Runway pricing ↗, which tells you it is respected by other video companies. Kling's own pricing page did not load for us, so check the current numbers before you subscribe.

Why we like it

  • Free credits every day
  • Cheap $10 entry paid plan
  • Well known video model

Flaws but not dealbreakers

  • Free videos have a watermark
  • Daily credits expire after 24 hours
  • Intro discounts only apply to the first period
Budget pickStarts at $9.99/month for 2,000 credits

Adobe Firefly

Best for small businesses that want several video models and commercially safe tools in one cheap plan.

Adobe Firefly Standard is $9.99 a month and includes 2,000 generative credits, enough for 20 five second videos by Adobe's count, plus music, sound effects and audio translation minutes Firefly plans ↗. It also gives you partner video models from Runway, Kling, Luma and Topaz in the same app Firefly plans ↗. Partner models draw from your monthly credits Firefly plans ↗.

Adobe says outputs from its own Firefly models are safe for commercial use, because they are trained on licensed and public domain content Firefly plans ↗. That promise does not extend to partner models, which Adobe says you must judge yourself Firefly plans ↗. There is a free plan with limited daily generations Firefly plans ↗, and Pro is $19.99 for 4,000 credits and 40 videos Firefly plans ↗.

Why we like it

  • Multiple top video models in one app
  • Music and sound effects included
  • Commercial safety claim for Adobe models
  • Free plan to try

Flaws but not dealbreakers

  • Only about 20 short videos on Standard
  • Partner models are not covered by Adobe's safety claim
  • Credits shared across images, video and audio
Upgrade pickStarts at $15/month, $12/month yearly; Pro $35/month

Runway

Best for creators and agencies who make video often and want many top models plus editing tools.

Runway is a full video studio rather than a single model. Standard is $15 a month, or $12 billed yearly, with 625 credits, no watermarks and access to all of Runway's image and video models, including Gen-4.5 and Kling 3.0 Runway pricing ↗. Pro is $35 a month, or $28 yearly, with 2,250 credits and adds unlimited 4K video and Topaz AI upscaling, and its plan list highlights ByteDance's Seedance 2.5 Runway pricing ↗.

That model choice is the reason to upgrade. ByteDance's Seedance models rank in the top ten of Arena's text to video leaderboard Arena video leaderboard ↗, and having several models in one place lets you pick the best one for each shot. Max at $95 a month adds 9,500 credits and lets unused credits roll over one month Runway pricing ↗; Standard and Pro credits do not roll over Runway pricing ↗.

Why we like it

  • Many top video models in one studio
  • No watermarks from Standard
  • Unlimited upscaling on Pro
  • Yearly billing discount

Flaws but not dealbreakers

  • Free plan is only 125 one time credits
  • Credits do not roll over on Standard and Pro
  • Costs add up for heavy use
Also greatFree for 3 videos/month; Creator starts at $29/month

HeyGen

Best for talking presenter videos, such as training, FAQs and product explainers.

If you need a person on screen explaining something, an avatar tool fits better than a clip generator. HeyGen's free plan includes three videos a month up to one minute long, one custom video avatar, more than 500 stock avatars and over 30 languages HeyGen pricing ↗.

Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, with videos up to 30 minutes, 1080p export, watermark removal, voice cloning and more than 175 languages HeyGen pricing ↗. That makes it easy to record one explainer and publish it in Spanish and other languages.

Why we like it

  • Free plan with a custom avatar
  • Videos up to 30 minutes on Creator
  • 175+ languages and voice cloning on paid plans

Flaws but not dealbreakers

  • Free videos limited to one minute
  • Not for cinematic or creative clips

Who this is for

This guide is for owners, marketers and creators who want short videos for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, ads or a website, without a film crew. It covers two kinds of tools: generators that create clips from text or a photo, and avatar tools that make a presenter read your script.

If you need to edit footage you already shot, a video editor with AI features may serve you better. If you need a voiceover only, see our guide to AI voice generators.

Why you should trust us

We read each vendor's pricing page and checked every price on October 9, 2026. For quality we used Arena's text to video leaderboard, which ranks models from blind public votes Arena video leaderboard ↗, and news coverage of the newest models ETV Bharat, Gemini Omni ↗ DataNorth, Gemini Omni ↗. Where a vendor's page would not load, as with Kling, we used a dated third party pricing guide and say so eesel, Kling pricing ↗.

We have not yet tested these tools hands on for this guide. Hands on testing is in progress, and we will update this page with sample clips for common business uses. No vendor paid for placement, and our picks were chosen on merit.

How we picked

We started with the companies whose models rank highest on Arena Arena video leaderboard ↗, the multi model studios that resell them, and the most popular avatar tools. We then looked at what a small business gets for its money: how many clips, at what quality, with or without a watermark, and whether you can use the result commercially.

We also checked which tools are still around. OpenAI shut down the Sora app on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API on September 24, 2026 The Decoder, Sora ↗, so it is no longer an option.

  • Video quality, using Arena rankings as a check
  • Price per month and credits included
  • Free plan or free daily credits
  • Watermark free output on paid plans
  • Editing by plain language and scene extension
  • Commercial use terms

What an AI video generator can and can't do today

Today's tools make short, realistic clips from a prompt or a still photo. Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash makes clips of three to ten seconds and can extend a scene up to 40 seconds DataNorth, Gemini Omni ↗ ETV Bharat, Gemini Omni ↗. Studios like Runway add editing, upscaling and many models in one place Runway pricing ↗, and avatar tools like HeyGen and Synthesia can produce a presenter video in many languages HeyGen pricing ↗ Synthesia pricing ↗.

They still struggle with longer stories, keeping a character or product exactly the same across shots, and fine control over camera moves and timing. Expect to generate several versions of each clip and pick the best one.

How to get better results

Plan your video as a list of short shots, each a few seconds long, then generate them one at a time. Start from a real photo of your product or space when you can, because image to video usually keeps details closer to reality than text alone.

Describe the camera as well as the scene: a slow push in on a coffee cup on a sunny cafe table, shallow focus. Keep text overlays, prices and logos for your editing app rather than asking the AI to draw them.

  • Write one prompt per shot
  • Start from a real product photo
  • Describe camera movement and lighting
  • Add text and logos in an editor afterward
  • Generate several takes and keep the best

Before you sign up

Credits are the hidden cost. Each tool charges credits per clip, and the cost depends on model, length and resolution. Runway's Standard and Pro credits do not roll over Runway pricing ↗, Kling's free credits expire after 24 hours eesel, Kling pricing ↗, and Firefly shares credits across images, video and audio Firefly plans ↗. Watch your balance closely in the first month.

Check commercial terms before you run ads. Luma lists commercial use on its Plus plan Luma pricing ↗, Adobe makes a commercial safety claim for its own models Firefly plans ↗, and free plans often add watermarks, as with Kling and Synthesia eesel, Kling pricing ↗ Synthesia pricing ↗. Never make a video of a real person without their consent.

  • Try free credits before paying
  • Confirm watermark free export on your plan
  • Check how many clips your credits buy
  • Get written consent before using anyone's likeness
  • Download your videos; services can shut down, as Sora did

What to look forward to

Video models are improving quickly. Google released Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash in August 2026 with conversational editing and 4K options DataNorth, Gemini Omni ↗, and new models from Black Forest Labs and xAI already sit in Arena's top five Arena video leaderboard ↗. Expect longer clips, better character consistency and built in sound to become standard.

The competition

SynthesiaFree; Starter $29/month billed monthly

Synthesia is a strong avatar tool for training and corporate videos. Its free plan includes 10 minutes of video with a watermark, and Starter is $29 a month for about 12 minutes Synthesia pricing ↗. HeyGen gives more for the same price for most small businesses HeyGen pricing ↗.

Luma AIStarts at $25/month billed yearly ($30 monthly)

Luma's plans start at $30 a month, or $25 yearly, for 10,000 credits with commercial use Luma pricing ↗. Its pricing page does not mention a free plan Luma pricing ↗, and its models are also available inside Adobe Firefly Firefly plans ↗, which is cheaper to start.

MidjourneyStarts at $10/month ($8 billed yearly)

Midjourney makes video as well as images, with unlimited SD video in Relax Mode on its $60 Pro and $120 Mega plans Midjourney plans ↗. It is a good bonus for Midjourney image users, but not the best place to start for video.

GrokFree; SuperGrok $30/month

xAI's Grok Imagine video model ranks fourth on Arena's text to video leaderboard Arena video leaderboard ↗. SuperGrok costs $30 a month, according to a third party pricing roundup Grok pricing ↗, and we found little published detail on video limits, so we left it out for now.

SoraDiscontinued

OpenAI's Sora was one of the best known video generators, but OpenAI shut down the Sora app on April 26, 2026 and the API on September 24, 2026 The Decoder, Sora ↗. It is no longer available.
