OUR VERDICT

Google Flow is Google's AI video and image studio, included with paid Google AI plans and running the Gemini Omni video models that top the public Arena leaderboard. Starting at $4.99 a month, it is the cheapest way we found to make high quality short clips. The catch is that Google does not clearly publish how many clips your credits buy.

What Google Flow is

Flow is Google's creative studio for AI video, images and custom tools Google Flow ↗. You describe a scene in words, add images or reference clips if you like, and Flow generates a short video you can refine ETV Bharat ↗ DataNorth ↗.

Flow is not sold on its own. It comes with Google AI subscriptions: Plus, Pro and Ultra each include a monthly allowance of Flow credits Google AI plans ↗. Free Google accounts get limited access to the Nano Banana Pro image model in Flow but no listed video credits Google AI plans ↗. Flow is for users 18 and older, and features can vary by plan, platform and region Google AI plans ↗.

The main video model is Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, released on August 27, 2026 and available in Flow to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers worldwide ETV Bharat ↗ DataNorth ↗.

What it does well

Quality is the headline. On Arena's text to video leaderboard, updated September 21, 2026, Google's Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash and Gemini Omni Flash held the top two places Arena ↗. Arena ranks models by blind public votes, so it is a useful quality check, though not a test of your own project.

Editing is conversational. You can ask for changes in plain language instead of starting over DataNorth ↗. You can set a start frame and an end frame and let the model fill in the motion between them, which helps with camera moves, zooms and seamless loops ETV Bharat ↗. Short reference clips of up to 3 seconds help keep characters and visuals consistent from scene to scene ETV Bharat ↗.

Clips can run longer than most. Scene extension adds 10 second steps up to 40 seconds in total, and the model now looks at up to 10 seconds of earlier footage for context ETV Bharat ↗. Output runs from 360p to 4K DataNorth ↗. Google says 360p drafts are up to 60 percent faster and a third of the cost of 720p, which is handy for testing ideas before a final render ETV Bharat ↗.

The bundle adds value. Google AI Plus also includes 400 GB of storage, higher Gemini limits and Gemini in Gmail and Vids Google AI plans ↗. Hands on testing is in progress.

Where it falls short

Credit costs are unclear. Google lists how many Flow credits each plan includes, but we could not find a published count of how many clips a credit buys Google AI plans ↗ DataNorth ↗. Start small and watch your balance.

There is no free video access. Free accounts get limited image tools in Flow, but Gemini Omni video needs a paid plan Google AI plans ↗ ETV Bharat ↗.

Resolution above 720p is upscaled. The default output is 720p, and 1080p and 4K are made by upscaling rather than generated natively DataNorth ↗. Independent coverage also notes there is no published benchmark of how well characters hold up across repeated extensions DataNorth ↗. The articles we found do not mention generated audio, so check that if you need sound.
