The Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai is a robot vacuum and roller mop that uses a camera to find stains and scrubs them with hot water, then empties into a bagless dock. Tom's Guide rates it the best robot for mopping, but other reviewers found stains and docking less reliable, so at around $1,000 to $1,200 it is worth it mainly for hard floor homes that value its bagless design.
What the Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai is
The Spot+Scrub Ai is Dyson's robot vacuum and mop in one. Instead of spinning pads, it uses a rolling microfiber mop bar fed with hot water, and the bar slides out to reach edges Tom's Guide ↗ PCWorld review ↗. Suction is rated at up to 18,000 Pa Tom's Guide ↗.
Its signature feature is stain detection. A high resolution camera with green light illumination spots dried on stains on hard floors, and the robot can make up to 15 passes over a stain PCWorld review ↗. It navigates with LiDAR and dual lasers and recognizes nearly 200 types of objects PCWorld review ↗.
The dock is bagless. It empties the robot into a cyclonic bin that Dyson claims holds up to 100 days of debris, washes the roller with 140 degree water and dries it with warm air PCWorld review ↗. Hands on testing is in progress.
What it does well
Mopping is its strength in Tom's Guide's testing. It named the Spot+Scrub Ai its best robot for mopping, saying hot water and a constantly fed mop bar break down grime and spread less dirt, and that it removed dried sauce and sticky spills in one pass Tom's Guide ↗.
Vacuum scores are high. In Tom's Guide's controlled tests it picked up 100% of pet hair on both hardwood and carpet, 92% of cereal on hardwood and 95% on carpet Tom's Guide ↗. PCWorld found hard floor vacuuming strong, including hair from three cats PCWorld review ↗.
Obstacle avoidance is good. PCWorld called it excellent, and TechRadar saw it avoid sockets, slippers and USB cables PCWorld review ↗ TechRadar review ↗.
The roller stays clean. TechRadar found the mop still clean after two months, and called the self cleaning mop excellent TechRadar review ↗.
No dust bags to buy. The bagless dock removes an ongoing cost that most rivals have Tom's Guide ↗ RoboVac Guide ↗.
Battery life is long, at up to 200 minutes TechRadar review ↗. PCWorld also saw it map about 1,100 square feet in roughly five minutes and usually finish ahead of its estimated run time PCWorld review ↗.
Where it falls short
Results vary by reviewer. PCWorld found a raspberry jelly stain mostly removed but left with streaks it finished by hand PCWorld review ↗. TechRadar found ketchup on wood only partly removed, did not see spill detection working and called the robot hardly a roaring success TechRadar review ↗.
The dock is not always reliable. TechRadar had a self emptying failure that caused a spill, and the robot often struggled to climb into the dock TechRadar review ↗.
It is big and loud. At 4.33 inches tall it may not fit under low furniture Tom's Guide ↗ PCWorld review ↗. The dock measures about 44 by 50 by 46 cm, and Dyson recommends 1.5 feet of clearance on each side and 5 feet in front PCWorld review ↗ TechRadar review ↗. TechRadar measured self emptying at 81 dB TechRadar review ↗. Tom's Guide found the drying cycle noisy and slow Tom's Guide ↗.
Suction is only adequate for the price. Tom's Guide says the Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Pro is more powerful at a similar price Tom's Guide ↗.
The app is basic. PCWorld notes there is no single Clean button, and TechRadar found map editing unintuitive and saw ads for Dyson products in the app PCWorld review ↗ TechRadar review ↗. Hair can wrap around the roller TechRadar review ↗.
