OUR VERDICT

The Dreame A3 AWD Pro 2500 is a wire free, all wheel drive robot mower that uses 3D LiDAR and camera vision to mow lawns up to about 0.62 acre on slopes up to 80 percent. Bob Vila named it the best robot mower for steep slopes, so it is worth it for hilly yards, but its near twin from sister brand MOVA covers more lawn for a little less money.

What the Dreame A3 AWD Pro 2500 is

The A3 AWD Pro 2500 is a robot lawn mower from Dreame, a company better known for robot vacuums. It needs no boundary wire and no RTK antenna. Instead it navigates with a system Dreame calls OmniSense 3.0, which pairs 360 degree 3D LiDAR with binocular AI vision Smart Home Compared ↗.

It is rated for lawns up to 0.62 acre, or about 2,499 square meters, and slopes up to 80 percent, which is about 38.7 degrees Smart Home Compared ↗. All wheel drive comes from four hub motors, and it can climb over obstacles up to 2.2 inches tall Smart Home Compared ↗.

The cutting deck is 15.8 inches wide, with two discs and six blades Smart Home Compared ↗. Cutting height runs from 1.2 to 3.9 inches and is set in the app Smart Home Compared ↗. An edge feature called EdgeMaster 2.0 cuts to within about 1.2 inches of a wall or bed Smart Home Compared ↗. The 2500 is the smallest battery trim in its line; the 3500 and 5000 share the same body and only add battery and rated area Smart Home Compared ↗.

What it does well

Hills are its strength. Bob Vila named it best for steep slopes after yard testing Bob Vila ↗. The reviewer said its all wheel drive gave excellent traction and handled slopes that made other mowers slow down, slip or reroute, and that it stayed composed even on the steepest parts of the property Bob Vila ↗.

Navigation and cutting scored well. Bob Vila gave it 4.5 out of 5 for setup and mapping, 4.5 for navigation, and 5 for both performance and app features Bob Vila ↗. The reviewer called mapping straightforward and navigation precise, and said it handled thick St. Augustine grass without complaint Bob Vila ↗.

It is packed with security and smart home features. Smart Home Compared lists built in 4G with three years of service included, GNSS tracking, AirTag compatibility, lift and off map alarms and a PIN lock Smart Home Compared ↗. It works with Alexa and Google Home, and with Home Assistant through a community integration Smart Home Compared ↗. You can set up to 100 zones and 100 no go areas, and a front light allows night mowing Smart Home Compared ↗.

It is built for weather, with an IPX6 rating on the mower Smart Home Compared ↗. Hands on testing on our side is in progress, and we will update this review with results.

Where it falls short

Value is the main problem. Bob Vila gave it 3.5 out of 5 for value, one of the lowest scores in its test Bob Vila ↗. The reviewer said the Dreame and the MOVA LiDAX Ultra 3000 AWD share a parent company and much of their hardware and software, and that most owners would struggle to tell them apart Bob Vila ↗. The MOVA is rated for a larger area and costs about the same or less MOVA LiDAX Ultra 3000 ↗.

Runtime and charging time are not published for this trim Smart Home Compared ↗. The battery is not user replaceable, and the 2500 has the smallest battery in the range Smart Home Compared ↗.

It is heavy and bulky. At 52.7 pounds and about 29 by 21 inches, Smart Home Compared calls it a two person lift that needs a wide gate Smart Home Compared ↗.

Smart home support has gaps. It uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only and does not support Apple Home, SmartThings or Matter Smart Home Compared ↗. The charging station is rated IPX4, lower than the mower Smart Home Compared ↗. After the three included years, you must buy the 4G service to keep cellular tracking Smart Home Compared ↗.

Pricing and plans

Smart Home Compared recorded a price of $2,499.99 on Amazon, against a list price of $3,399.99 Smart Home Compared ↗. Bob Vila names Amazon and Dreame's own store as sellers Bob Vila ↗. Mower prices change often during mowing season, so check before you buy.

The warranty is three years, according to Smart Home Compared, which did not list further terms Smart Home Compared ↗. Built in 4G service is included for three years; after that it is a paid service Smart Home Compared ↗. There is no subscription needed to mow. Blades will need replacing over time, but we could not confirm blade prices from the pages we checked.
