Pudu BellaBot is a four tray serving robot with a cat face and a friendly voice, built for family and casual restaurants. It runs up to 10 to 12 hours a charge and guests tend to enjoy it, but it costs about $4,500 more than the Bear Robotics Servi and its reseller does not publish payload or aisle width. It is worth it if personality and four trays matter more to you than the lowest price.
What Pudu BellaBot is
BellaBot is a self driving serving robot from Pudu Robotics. It carries food from the kitchen to tables on four trays, and its screen shows an animated cat face that reacts to guests RobotLAB BellaBot ↗ AP via KSL ↗. Many diners have already met one at a noodle shop or sushi bar.
In the US, it is sold through integrators such as RobotLAB, which handles delivery, on site setup, staff training and ongoing service nationwide RobotLAB BellaBot ↗. The robot weighs 66 pounds and measures about 565 by 537 by 1,290 mm, so it is a full size serving robot rather than a compact one RobotLAB BellaBot ↗.
Hands on testing is in progress, and we will update this review with results.
What it does well
Four trays give it room to work. That is more shelves than the standard Bear Robotics Servi, which has two trays plus a bus tub RobotLAB BellaBot ↗ Bear Servi ↗. Each BellaBot tray measures about 38.5 by 27.5 cm, with 11.5 cm of height RobotLAB BellaBot ↗.
It lasts a long shift. RobotLAB rates the battery for up to 10 to 12 hours, with a 4 to 5 hour charge RobotLAB BellaBot ↗. Most restaurants can charge it overnight and run it through lunch and dinner.
It avoids obstacles. RobotLAB lists LIDAR and a depth camera for navigation and obstacle avoidance RobotLAB BellaBot ↗. It also lists elevator, door opener and multi floor support, and compatibility with RobotLAB's Smart Pass system RobotLAB BellaBot ↗.
Guests like it. Its face and voice are a big part of the appeal for family and casual restaurants, and AP found owners using BellaBots at a Michigan noodle shop and a Florida sushi restaurant AP via KSL ↗.
It can take pressure off a small team. The Noodle Topia owner told AP that with three BellaBots, three employees handle what five or six used to, and servers have more time to talk with guests AP via KSL ↗.
Where it falls short
It costs more than the leading rival. RobotLAB lists BellaBot from $14,500, about $4,500 more than its $9,990 listing for the Bear Robotics Servi RobotLAB price list ↗.
Key specs are missing. RobotLAB's BellaBot page says to contact them for payload, aisle width, speed and minimum path clearance RobotLAB BellaBot ↗. Those numbers decide whether a robot fits your floor, so ask for them in writing before you sign.
Not everyone enjoys it. A server at The Sushi Factory told AP the robot saves trips to the kitchen but can be frustrating, and some customers avoid it AP via KSL ↗. A character robot suits a family spot better than a quiet fine dining room.
Like other serving robots, it cannot take orders, climb steps or replace a server's judgment. It also has no large ad screen, unlike the Keenon T10 or Pudu's own KettyBot Pro Keenon T10 ↗ RobotLAB KettyBot Pro ↗.
Pricing and plans
Pudu does not sell BellaBot directly to most US restaurants. RobotLAB lists it starting at $14,500 to buy RobotLAB BellaBot ↗ RobotLAB price list ↗.
RobotLAB also lists a robot as a service (RaaS) plan from $409 a month RobotLAB BellaBot ↗. Its price list shows this on a 36 month term RobotLAB price list ↗. Over three years that is about $14,724, very close to buying outright, which makes the monthly plan a reasonable choice if you would rather not tie up cash.
RobotLAB mentions financing but gives no terms on the page, and asks buyers to request a quote RobotLAB BellaBot ↗. Neither the warranty length nor what the RaaS payment covers is listed, and no software subscription or consumables are mentioned RobotLAB BellaBot ↗. Ask your dealer about warranty, service response times and what happens at the end of the 36 months.
