AI AND YOUR JOB · CHECKED OCT 2026
Will AI replace marketing managers?
Not the manager, but much of the team's production work. Google, Meta, HubSpot and Adobe now write ad variations, pick audiences, shift ad budgets and draft content, so the job is shifting toward setting strategy, budgets and brand rules and checking what the machines produce. BLS still projects marketing manager jobs to grow 7% from 2025 to 2035, though a Gartner survey found many CMOs plan to trim headcount and agency spend with AI.

| Task | Verdict | Tools doing it | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plan and coordinate advertising and promotional campaigns | AI helps, you check | Google AI Max for Search, Meta Advantage+ | Google's AI Max now writes new search headlines and widens targeting from your site, and Meta is reported to be working toward ads built from just a goal and a budget, but you still set the objective, the spend and the brand limits. [3][4] |
| Review and edit content for marketing materials | AI helps, you check | HubSpot, Adobe GenStudio for Performance Marketing | Content agents draft blogs, landing pages and social posts, and brand tools help keep variations on brand, but someone has to catch wrong claims and off tone copy before it ships. [5][6] |
| Compile descriptions of products and services | AI helps, you check | HubSpot, Jasper | Content agents draft product and service copy for pages and posts quickly, but specs, prices and legal claims still need a person who knows the product to verify them. [5] |
| Start market research studies and analyze the results | AI helps, you check | HubSpot | CRM tools now enrich contact data and surface buyer intent signals automatically, but deciding what to study and what the findings mean for the plan is still your call. [5] |
| Forecast sales and plan for profitable product lines | AI helps, you check | HubSpot | Predictive scoring and analytics help spot which leads and segments are likely to convert, but the forecast you present to leadership carries your judgment and your name. [5] |
| Set marketing strategy based on company goals and market conditions | Still human | None | Choosing which markets to chase and which to ignore depends on company politics, competitors and risk appetite that no model sees in full. |
| Direct, coordinate and set marketing policies across teams | Still human | None | Getting sales, product and finance to agree on one plan takes persuasion and trust built over many meetings. |
| Hire, train and evaluate marketing staff | Still human | None | Building and coaching a team, and deciding who is ready for more, is people management that stays with a manager. |
| Manage marketing budgets and spending | AI helps, you check | Meta Advantage+ campaign budget | Meta's Advantage+ campaign budget now shifts money between ad sets on its own to get the most results, but you still set the total budget and bid strategy and answer to the CFO for the return. [11] |
| Develop pricing strategies | AI helps, you check | PROS Price Optimization | Pricing software like PROS gives AI price recommendations by segment and lets you simulate changes, but big price moves go through approval steps because a wrong call hits revenue directly. [12] |
| Advise product teams on design, packaging and features | Still human | None | Turning what customers say into product changes needs back and forth with designers and engineers who weigh cost and feasibility. |
| Negotiate contracts with agencies, vendors and distributors | Still human | None | Negotiation runs on relationships and leverage, and the person who signs is accountable for the terms. |
| Work with legal staff on copyright, trademark and royalty issues | Still human | None | AI generated images and copy raise new rights questions, and resolving them is a job for marketing leaders and lawyers together. |
| Run trade show presence and choose what to display | Still human | None | Booths, demos and face to face meetings with buyers are live events that a person plans and works. |

Quick questions
Will AI replace marketing managers?
Unlikely in the next few years. BLS projects marketing manager jobs to grow 7% from 2025 to 2035 [2]. AI is more likely to shrink the teams and agencies under them: in Gartner's 2025 survey, 39% of CMOs planned to reduce labor costs and 22% said generative AI had cut their reliance on agencies [7].
Is marketing management a good career with AI?
It can be, if you can run the AI rather than compete with it. The median marketing manager earned $166,790 in May 2025 [2]. CMOs in Gartner's survey said generative AI mostly improved time efficiency (49%) and cost efficiency (40%), which rewards managers who can show those gains [7].
Will Google and Meta automate ad campaigns completely?
They are moving that way. Google's AI Max for Search writes headlines and expands which searches your ads show for, and Google claims 14% more conversions at similar cost on average [3]. Meta's Advantage+ campaign budget already moves spend between ad sets automatically [11], and the Wall Street Journal reported Meta plans to let brands create and target ads from an objective and a price point by 2026 [4], but the brand, total budget and offer still come from you.
What AI tools do marketing managers use?
Common ones include HubSpot Breeze agents for content, social posts and prospect research [5], Adobe GenStudio for producing on brand ad variations [6], and the built in AI in Google Ads and Meta ads [3] [4]. Most managers also use a general chatbot for briefs and first drafts.
Which marketing jobs are most at risk from AI?
Roles built on producing lots of similar content, such as ad variations, product copy and routine social posts, are most exposed because tools like HubSpot's content and social agents now draft them [5]. Jobs that own strategy, budgets and cross team decisions, like the manager role, are safer [1] [7].
